Did a recent drive through a construction zone leave your car with more than you anticipated? One stray rock can cause considerable damage to your car’s windshield. You know your auto glass is in need of repair, but how do you know whether windshield repair will do the job instead of a complete windshield replacement?
Without seeing your car firsthand, we at Waxwerks of Castleton can’t give you an answer with a 100% guarantee. However, we can give you a few things to consider when determining whether cars need auto glass repair or replacement.
1. How big is the crack or chip?
The size of a windshield crack or dent determines whether it can be repaired or needs to be replaced. Minor chips can usually be replaced, but if the chip causes an extensive crack, you may need replacement to avoid further damage or safety concerns.
2. What type of windshield crack is it?
Believe it or not, you can find many different types of windshield cracks out there—and some are easier to repair than others. Some cracks, like a Bulls-Eye crack caused by circular objects, are generally easy to repair. However, if you have multiple cracks or different types of cracks, windshield repair is less likely.
3. Where is the crack or chip?
We determine whether a windshield needs repairing or replacing based on where it’s positioned on the windshield. For example, if the crack goes through multiple layers of glass or is on the inside of the windshield, repair becomes difficult.
Your best bet for determining whether you need windshield repair or replacement is to bring your vehicle to our Castleton location.
